Answer Our Short Questionnaire to Better Understand the Costs of Smart Home Integration

We pride ourselves on not offering cookie-cutter, packaged solutions. Unfortunately, we can’t provide our clients with a straightforward price sheet when they express interest in our smart home services. But that doesn’t mean we want to be deceptive about costs. Enter our brand new budget calculator

As an HTA-certified company, we have access to the company's proprietary budget calculator, which helps you get a project estimate based on the size of your home, where you’re located, and the services you want to include.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through the calculator to help you make a smart investment for your home.

Getting to Know Your Home

The calculator mimics the same questions you’d experience in our first one-on-one consultation. Before we start any project, we need to know your home and priorities. So, this budget calculator begins with high-level inquiries about your home (how big it is, if it has existing wiring, etc.) and your neighborhood (as this may affect labor costs). Next, we gauge the level of technology work you want done (is it just networking and lighting or a full smart home package, for example).

Gauging Your Technology Needs

Once we have that information, it’s time to start budgeting for specific technology subsystems, starting with your Wi-Fi network. We’ll figure it out if you need it for entertainment, connectivity, work, or all of the above. This will help us choose between consumer-grade and enterprise-grade solutions. This should always be the first thing you budget for, as it’s the foundation for the rest. Then you’ll see individualized questions for all the other possible tech additions:

  • Lighting: Decide which areas you want smart lighting in, the types of controls, the number of fixtures, the fixture models, and the number of windows you’d like to have motorized shades.

  • Home AV: Choose how many rooms need high-grade, audiophile sound and which background music. Then, select the number of TVs based on size. Finally, do you want centralized control to access all your sources from one device?

  • Home Cinema: The calculator lets you choose between entry-level, enhanced, and performance options based on the type of theater you want (don’t worry; the budget calculator will explain what each of those entails).

  • Surround Sound: Beyond your theater, where else do you want entry-level or high-performance surround sound? Beyond theaters, these could include media rooms or family rooms.

Those are usually the most common systems for our clients, but you’ll also see similar questions for surveillance, access control, architectural features, and more.

Tips on Using the Budget Calculator

If you feel there are a lot of questions and you don’t have the answers, don’t get overwhelmed. This isn’t an official proposal or quote; it’s just meant to be a general estimate to give you a better idea of what goes into a smart home installation. As you answer questions, you’ll see the budget fill out at the bottom of the page. This may also help you adjust previous answers and make edits to make the system match your ideal budget.

And of course, if you have questions or want to go through the questionnaire with someone from our team, we’re here to help. Just give us a call or fill out our contact form, and we’ll connect you with one of our technicians.
